Adjustment to Covid-19
The Statistical Service, adapting to the unprecedented conditions of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and having as α primary goal to ensure the health and safety of both the citizens and its staff, has adjusted the data collection procedures for the Census of Population and Housing 2021 accordingly.
The main method of data collection for the Census is face-to-face interviews at households. Given the health situation in Cyprus, the enumerators are instructed not to enter the housing unit. The interview can take place in an area outside the house, such as the doorstep or the garden. In addition, it is possible for the interview to be conducted by telephone either at the time of the enumerator's visit or at a later time which could be arranged between the enumerators and the respondents. In case the respondents do not want to follow one of the two options described above, they are also given the opportunity to fill in a paper questionnaire, which the enumerators will hand over and collect back at a day and time agreed.
During the data collection, enumerators will comply with all indicated measures for preventing the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19. Specifically, they will carry with them a SafePass, wear face masks and use disinfectants, as well as follow the protocol prepared by the Ministry of Health for the Census of Population and any other measures that will be in force during the Census period.
