TAKE PART, EVERYBODY COUNTS
The Population Census is a project of great importance. The data that will be collected during the Census are necessary to facilitate the state policy and planning, in both social and economic sectors. For example, the data are used in the design of health services, in the construction of schools, in the construction of roads, in the development of rural areas, in the demographic policy of the government, etc. In addition, detailed census data at the municipal and community level are invaluable for every local administration.
The Census is also important for businesses, as it provides to them aggregate information about the characteristics of the population in different geographical areas. In this way, they are given the opportunity to better study the demographic profile of each region so that they can identify the specific needs of their customers.
In addition, the Census is a reliable basis for comparing demographic data and indicators, both over time and between countries, especially within the EU. It is also a primary source for estimating sample weights in various surveys for producing more accurate estimates of important statistical indicators, such as unemployment, employment, poverty and inequality, private consumption expenditure, etc.
Considering all the above benefits, participation in the Census can contribute to the common good as the statistical data affect everyone's life either directly or indirectly. The Statistical Service of Cyprus urges all the permanent residents of Cyprus to cooperate with the enumerators who will visit them during the data collection period.
The Population Census is conducted in accordance with the Official Statistics Law of 2021 (Law No. 25(Ι)/2021). According to the provisions of the Law, participation in the Census is mandatory. The Statistical Service is obliged to keep the data which will be collected as confidential.
